The fourth grade Math class will be taught by Mrs. Waydenia Nieves.
In Mathematics class the students will do the following:
- Apply knowledge of whole numbers and place value.
- Apply knowledge of fractions and decimals.
- Apply knowledge of money.
- Apply number relationships.
- Analyze number relations and compute.
- Analyze the properties of plane geometric figures.
- Analyze the properties of solid geometric figures.
- Analyze the relationship between plane geometric figures and surfaces of solid geometric figures.
- Identify, describe, extend, and create numeric patterns and functions.
- Identify, describe, extend, analyze, and create a non-numeric growing or repeating pattern.
- Write and identify expressions.
- Identify, write, solve, and apply equations and inequalities.
- Locate points on a number line and in a coordinate grid.
The fourth grade Science class will be taught by Mrs. Waydenia Nieves.
In Science class the students will be able to do the following:
- Explain how animals and plants can be grouped according to observable features.
- Explain that in order for offspring to resemble their parents, there must be a reliable way to transfer information from one generation to the next.
- Recognize food as the source of materials that all living things need to grow and survive.
- Explain ways that individuals and groups of organisms interact with each other and their environment.
- Provide evidence to support the fact that matter has observable and measurable properties.
- Provide evidence that heat can be transferred in different ways.
- Investigate and provide evidence that electricity requires a closed loop in order to produce measurable effects.
- Cite evidence supporting that forces can act on objects without touching them.
- Recognize and explain how physical weathering and erosion cause changes to the earth's surface.
- Recognize and explain that fossils provide evidence about the plants and animals that lived long ago and about the nature of the environment at that time.
- Identify and describe the variety of objects in the universe through first-hand observations using the unaided eye, binoculars, telescopes, videos and/or pictures from reliable sources.
- Recognize and describe that each season has different weather conditions.
The fourth grade Social Studies class will be taught by Mrs. Janice McIntosh.
The students in Social Studies class will be able to do the following:
- Trace how the political structure in early Maryland developed and changed over time.
- Analyze the documents, and democratic ideas that developed in the Maryland Colony.
- Analyze the role of Maryland government regarding public policy and issues.
- Analyze how individuals and groups contributed to the political system in Maryland.
- Defend the importance of civic participation as a citizen of Maryland.
- Describe the various cultures of early societies of Maryland.
- Analyze how Maryland society was influenced by the contributions of people and groups.
- Describe cultural characteristics of various groups of people in Maryland.
- Evaluate how various perspectives of Marylanders can cause compromise and/or conflict.
- Use geographic tools to locate places and describe the human and physical characteristics of those places.
- Describe similarities and differences of regions by using geographic characteristics.
- Describe and analyze population growth, migration, and settlement patterns in Maryland and regions of the United States
